Mesothelioma Still on the Rise in Japan

While the rate of mesothelioma continues to slowly decline in the U.S., the virulent asbestos-linked cancer is still on the rise in Japan.

A new Japanese study on future health trends projects that the incidence of mesothelioma won’t peak in Japan until 2027.  In the meantime, tens of thousands of Japanese workers are expected to die of mesothelioma.  Based on considerations such as the number of workers in industrial jobs and the likelihood of asbestos exposure, the study projects the mesothelioma death toll to reach 66,327 people ages 50 to 89 between 2003 and 2050.

Miracle Vaccine Universally Targets All Cancer Tumors

A research team, collaborating efforts between Tel Aviv University and a pharmaceutical company, Vaxil Bio Therapeutics, have discovered a powerful vaccine that could eliminate nearly 90% of all cancers. The vaccine – ImMucin – actually attacks a molecule that 90% of all cancers carry, jumpstarting the immune system. ImMucin is different than standard medications given to cancer patients, in that, it is a therapeutic vaccine rather a prophylactic vaccine. Prophylactic vaccines prevent cancers.

In the study, the research team administered ImMucin to 10 patients with a rare blood cancer known as multiple myeloma. 3 of the initial test patients reported that the cancer was completely eradicated, where the remaining 7 found their immune system boosted and better equipped to fight off the cancer.

Large Study Shows Genetic Changes from Treatment May Be the Key to Personalized Care for Mesothelioma Patients

Researchers continue to focus projects on finding the key to offering physicians a reliable method for offering personalized treatment to their cancer patients.  While oncologists tend to rely on the combination chemotherapy treatment of pemetrexed and cisplatin for mesothelioma patients, researchers now believe that by “profiling genetic alterations in cancer with drug sensitivity” they may be able to identify an effective alternative for patients who do not respond to the treatment.
